As Indianas delves into the diverse experiences of women who have lived through immigration in Galicia. Rosario, Olga, and Rosa will share their stories and tell us about the cultural heritage brought by those “Indianos” who once emigrated to South America or Switzerland. 

We will explore the world of an eclectic and identity-rich architecture known as Casas Indianas, seeking to understand why the Indianos felt the need to return to their homeland and settle in large houses featuring a rich and varied architectural blend. 

These women will offer us an authentic perspective through their own experiences or those of their families, helping us understand why many families were separated out of necessity and saw emigration as the best solution. Through their stories, we will grasp how “women worked hard without a single moment of rest” (as one of the interviewees said). 

We will also discover the lasting influence of matriarchal structures in Galician society, as well as the development of a unique female identity.
